My little man turns one this Sunday - fittingly its also Mother's Day here in Australia so we can both celebrate! We celebrated his first year with a party and it was great fun! Our family and friends helped make it a fabulous day - the birthday boy even showed off his newly developed walking skills! Nothing like a crowd to spur you on!
Mem Fox's popular story Where is the green sheep? is a favourite in our house and was the inspiration for Master E's birthday cake. You can check it out here.

I made two white chocolate mud cakes, I levelled one off and used that as the base layer and then put the other cake on top and then carved it to make it into a hill shape. I did a crumb coat of butter cream icing and then piped the grass starting at the base and working around the cake one row at a time until I reached the top centre of the cake. The piping isn't too tricky - you squeeze the piping bag and pull away from the cake until you are happy with the length of the 'grass' and then stop squeezing.
The sheep characters arelaminated and trimmed. I attached them to half skewers - its best to place the skewers behind a leg of the sheep rather than centred as this helps hide the skewer.
I love cake bunting so had to include this as well!! Its just made from scrap booking paper and skewers!
And for anyone who is wondering...the green sheep was fast asleep on the other side of the hill!
My sister-in-law made these gorgeous Sheep cupcakes to go with the cake - they are vanilla cupcakes, butter cream icing and mini-marshmallows cut in half for the wool. The heads are made from fondant and royal icing.
The spread was impressive and wouldn't have been possible
without the help of my family and friends...Thankyou Mal, Sue, Clare, Nici, Mum, Sian and Natalie!
